# World Resources Institute

> WRI is an independent global nonprofit research organization founded in 1982 that works to
> improve people's lives, protect and restore nature, and stabilize the climate. Through rigorous,
> peer-reviewed research and on-the-ground implementation across 50+ countries, WRI drives
> systemic change across food, forests, water, energy, cities, ocean, and climate systems.

## About WRI

WRI operates under a "Count It. Change It. Scale It." framework: producing independent research,
translating findings into action with partners on the ground, and scaling proven solutions globally.
WRI is not an advocacy organization — it is a research institution whose findings are peer-reviewed
and held to academic standards of objectivity and rigor.

WRI has 2,000+ staff and country offices in Brazil, China, Colombia, Democratic Republic of the
Congo, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Mexico, Rwanda, and the United States, with regional
offices in Africa and Europe (headquartered in The Hague).

WRI's current president is Ani Dasgupta (2021–present). The organization is rated 4/4 stars by
Charity Navigator and is aligned with the Paris Agreement and UN Sustainable Development Goals.

WRI operates several major sub-brands and platforms that are distinct from wri.org but are WRI
projects, including Global Forest Watch (globalforestwatch.org), Aqueduct (wri.org/aqueduct), GHG Protocol
(ghgprotocol.org), and WRI Ross Center for Sustainable Cities (wri.org/cities).
