Innovative construction solutions providing better value at a reduced cost I-435 South Loop Link Design-BuildKansas City, MO Learn More Innovative construction solutions providing better value at a reduced cost I-435 South Loop Link Design-BuildKansas City, MO Learn More What is Alternative Project Delivery? In infrastructure, alternative delivery refers to unconventional approaches for designing, financing, and executing large-scale construction projects. It involves utilizing methods beyond the traditional design-bid-build model, such as design-build (DB), progressive design-build (PDB), construction manager/general contractor (CM/GC), public-private partnerships (PPPs), and other collaborative arrangements. These approaches enhance efficiency, innovation, collaboration, and cost-effectiveness in delivering critical infrastructure projects. With benefits that also include early delivery and simplified stakeholder feedback processes, there are many reasons for project owners to consider alternative delivery methods. Differing from the traditional design-bid-build method, alternative project delivery allows earlier involvement of contractors and stakeholders during the design phase. This strategic integration creates more efficient project schedules, improved project outcomes, and reduced risk. Using this approach promotes collaboration across the team and allows for fast solutions to the challenges projects face in a rapidly changing world. From concept to completion, Wilson & Company creates better alternative delivery solutions based on lessons learned and rigorous leadership in analysis, processes, procedures, and outcomes. Our expertise empowers clients to undertake significant projects that incorporate alternative forms of delivery. We work with our clients to understand the particular elements of their projects to select the proper approach. Our innovative solutions provide better value at a reduced construction cost. While constantly...

Wilson & Company’s nationally recognized design-build leadership and engineering innovation continue to set a benchmark for rural infrastructure delivery, as Missouri’s Fixing Access to Rural Missouri (FARM) Bridge Program earns prestigious honors at both the national and regional levels. Most recently, the program received the 2025 Best in Small Project National Award of Merit from the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA), recognizing a project that delivered safer, longer-lasting, and more efficient bridge infrastructure for rural communities across the state. Completed in September 2023, the $21. 5 million Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) design-build initiative replaced 31 deteriorating, weight-restricted bridges across 15 counties in Missouri’s Northwest and Northeast Districts. Since its completion, the program has received multiple industry awards, including the 2025 ACEC Missouri Engineering Excellence Honor Award and the 2024 DBIA Mid-America Region Civil Infrastructure & Innovation Excellence Award. Together, these honors highlight the program’s technical excellence, cost efficiency, and meaningful community impact, which was mainly driven by the strategic application of the Simple for Dead Load–Continuous for Live Load (SDCL) steel girder methodology and the efficiencies enabled through design-build delivery. How SDCL and design-build delivered results A defining innovation of the FARM Bridge Program was the use of the SDCL steel girder design methodology, which balances constructability, durability, and speed. The method allows bridge spans to behave as simple for dead load during construction, while performing as continuous for live load once in service, improving long-term structural performance. By eliminating bolted field splices, the team significantly reduced fabrication and...

Wilson & Company is proud to announce that the I-25 Slope Mitigation and Roadway Improvements project has been named the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) New Mexico Grand Conceptor Award winner. This achievement is a testament to our commitment to innovative engineering solutions, collaborative partnerships, and a focus on safety and long-term sustainability. The project, located along New Mexico’s I-25 corridor connecting Santa Fe and Albuquerque, is recognized for transforming a critical stretch of highway and addressing significant engineering challenges. This corridor is one of New Mexico’s busiest highways, with more than 40,000 vehicles traveling each day. However, one section of this route, spanning from mile markers 264 to 267. 5, also known as La Bajada Hill, posed unique challenges due to roadway instability caused by the settlement of various types of fill used in prior expansions that had taken place over the decades. The deterioration of this foundation caused pavement distress, such as cracks, undulations, and potholes. Temporary fixes became more frequent and less sustainable. This threatened both safety and traffic flow. A more permanent solution was needed, and future repairs were needed to address both potential instability, including a possible landslide and settlement of fill. To resolve these issues, Wilson & Company collaborated with the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT), WSP, and Mountain State Constructors on a comprehensive project to stabilize the roadway, mitigate slope erosion, and improve the highway's overall safety. The project included soil stabilization techniques, drainage improvements, and major roadway upgrades, which contributed...
