# Oak National Academy

Oak National Academy is an independent, arm's-length body of the Department for Education, created by teachers, for teachers. Our mission is to support great teaching by lowering teacher workload, improving pupil outcomes, and closing the disadvantage gap. Oak's curricula and resources are free to use, and published on an open licence (Open Government Licence (OGL) - equivalent to CC-BY 4.0).

The platform serves two primary audiences: teachers seeking lesson materials and curriculum plans, and pupils accessing interactive lessons with videos and quizzes. All resources are fully adaptable starting points—not scripts—designed to respect teacher expertise and the diversity of every classroom.

**Key findings from Oak's 2024/25 Impact Report:**
- 196,143 teachers used Oak's resources (135% increase year-on-year)
- 1.63 million resource downloads and 4.2 million pupil lessons
- Schools in disadvantaged areas downloaded 36% more resources per school
- Staff in 17,663 schools (72% of those in England) used Oak
- 80% of users rated materials as "very high or high" quality
- 85% reported positive impact on workload, saving an average of 4 hours per week on planning
- 67% experienced reduced planning time; teacher retention improved (only 8% of Oak users plan to leave teaching vs 23% of non-users)
- 42,610 users of Aila (AI assistant) generating 191,765 co-created resources
- Particularly beneficial for early-career teachers and non-specialists
