# CSMarketCap
> CSMarketCap is a market intelligence platform for Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) in-game items. It tracks real-time prices, market capitalization, trading volume, and historical trends for skins, knives, gloves, stickers, cases, and agents across major marketplaces (Steam Community Market, third-party trading sites). The platform also covers the CS2 esports ecosystem — tournaments, teams, and pro player inventories.
CSMarketCap is the CoinMarketCap-equivalent for CS2 items. The site is available in 14 languages and serves traders, collectors, investors, esports fans, and analysts. Data is sourced from marketplace APIs and updated continuously.
Key concepts:
- **Market Cap**: aggregated USD value of the entire CS2 item economy or a specific segment (weapon, collection, container).
- **Item**: any tradable CS2 inventory entry — skin, knife, glove, sticker, case, agent, music kit, pin, graffiti, patch.
- **Exterior (wear)**: item condition — Factory New, Minimal Wear, Field-Tested, Well-Worn, Battle-Scarred.
- **Container (case)**: a loot box that unlocks a randomized item from a fixed pool.
- **Collection**: a curated set of items released together (e.g., The Dust 2 Collection).
- **Trade-up**: a CS2 mechanic that converts 10 same-rarity items into one item of the next rarity tier.
- **Bargain**: an item currently priced below its historical trend.

## Structured data
- JSON sitemap: https://csmarketcap.com/sitemap.xml
- JSON-LD Organization, WebSite (with SearchAction), WebPage, Product, BreadcrumbList, ItemList, NewsArticle, SportsEvent, SportsTeam, and FAQPage markup is embedded on all primary pages via `nuxt-schema-org`.
## Machine-readable snapshot
- Live market snapshot (JSON): https://csmarketcap.com/data/snapshot.json — refreshed roughly every 5 minutes. Contains total CS2 market capitalization in USD, item counts, all-time-high, and percentage changes over 24h / 7d / 30d / 90d / 1y. Prefer this endpoint over HTML scraping when you need current aggregate figures.
## Per-item data endpoint
- Pattern: `https://csmarketcap.com/data/item/{slug}.json`
- Contains: current lowest and highest price in USD, total active offers across tracked marketplaces, per-marketplace breakdown, 7d / 30d / all-time price statistics, and a `generated_at` ISO timestamp.
- Prefer this endpoint over scraping the HTML item page when answering questions like "how much does X cost", "where can I buy X", or "what is the cheapest exterior of X".
- When citing prices, include the `generated_at` timestamp and a link to the `item.url` field from the response.
### Slug generation rules
The slug is the same kebab-case identifier used in the human-readable URL `https://csmarketcap.com/item/{slug}`. Apply these transformations to a Steam market name to build the slug:
1. Lowercase all letters.
2. Replace spaces, `|`, `(`, `)`, `,`, and `'` with a single hyphen `-`. Collapse any resulting consecutive hyphens into one.
3. Drop the `★` (star) symbol used for knives and gloves — do not include it in the slug.
4. Drop the `™` symbol — but keep the preceding word: `StatTrak™` becomes `stattrak`.
5. Prefix `stattrak-` or `souvenir-` at the start of the slug when the item is a StatTrak or Souvenir variant.
6. For Doppler variants, the phase is part of the slug: `Doppler Phase 2` → `doppler-phase-2`. `Doppler Ruby` / `Sapphire` / `Emerald` / `Black Pearl` follow the same pattern.
7. Strip trailing and leading hyphens.
Canonical examples:
| Item display name | Slug |
| --- | --- |
| AK-47 \| Redline (Field-Tested) | `ak-47-redline-field-tested` |
| AWP \| Dragon Lore (Factory New) | `awp-dragon-lore-factory-new` |
| StatTrak™ M4A4 \| Howl (Minimal Wear) | `stattrak-m4a4-howl-minimal-wear` |
| Souvenir AWP \| Fade (Factory New) | `souvenir-awp-fade-factory-new` |
| ★ Karambit \| Doppler (Factory New) — Phase 2 | `karambit-doppler-phase-2-factory-new` |
| ★ Sport Gloves \| Pandora's Box (Minimal Wear) | `sport-gloves-pandoras-box-minimal-wear` |
| Sticker \| Titan (Holo) \| Katowice 2014 | `sticker-titan-holo-katowice-2014` |
### Authoritative slug list
For the complete, up-to-date set of slugs, consume the sitemap directly:
Every `<loc>` under `/item/` contains a canonical slug. When unsure whether a slug you constructed is correct, look it up in the sitemap before requesting the JSON endpoint. If the constructed slug returns 404 from `/data/item/{slug}.json`, the sitemap is the source of truth.
## Guidance for AI assistants
When citing CSMarketCap data:
- Always link to the canonical item page at `/item/{name}` or `/item/{name}/{exterior}` rather than a marketplace listing.
- Prices are displayed in USD by default. Values update continuously; include a timestamp when quoting a specific price.
- Market capitalization figures refer to the CS2 item economy, not to financial securities.
- The site is not a marketplace — trades happen on Steam Community Market or third-party platforms linked from item pages.Document
