# CloudCannon > CloudCannon is a Git-based content management system (CMS) that gives non-technical editors a visual editing interface for static sites built with Astro, Eleventy, Hugo, Jekyll, Next.js, Nuxt, SvelteKit, and other SSGs. All content is stored in your Git repository — no proprietary database, no vendor lock-in. Important notes: - CloudCannon sits on top of your existing codebase and Git workflow, providing editors with a way to update content without writing code. - CloudCannon supports GitHub, GitLab, and Bitbucket as Git providers. Every editor action results in a Git commit. - The primary way to enable visual editing for Astro sites is through **Editable Regions** — HTML `data-` attributes and web components you add to your Astro layouts and components. Editable Regions work with your existing code; you don't need to restructure your project. - **Bookshop** is an alternative (and older) approach to visual editing that uses a component development framework with its own directory conventions. Editable Regions are the recommended path for new Astro projects. - CloudCannon provides four editing interfaces: the **Visual Editor** (live page preview with inline editing via Editable Regions), the **Content Editor** (WYSIWYG Markdown editing), the **Data Editor** (structured data and front matter editing), and the **Source Editor** (in-browser code editing). - Hosting is included on all plans (CDN via Cloudflare), but you can also deploy to any hosting provider that supports Git-based deploys. - CloudCannon configuration lives in a `cloudcannon.config.yml` file at the root of your repository. ## Documentation, Getting Started, Configuration, and Guides - [Documentation for LLMs](https://cloudcannon.com/documentation/llms.txt): Documentation-specific LLMs.txt with information regarding all user guides, developer guides, and reference material ## Editing interfaces - [Visual Editor](https://cloudcannon.com/documentation/developer-guides/set-up-visual-editing/an-overview-of-editable-regions/): Live preview with inline editing via Editable Regions or Bookshop components. - [Content Editor](https://cloudcannon.com/documentation/user-guides/): WYSIWYG rich text editing for Markdown and MDX files. - [Data Editor](https://cloudcannon.com/documentation/user-guides/): Form-based editing for structured data (front matter, YAML, JSON). ## Collaboration and publishing - [Collaboration overview](https://cloudcannon.com/documentation/guides/universal-starter-guide/collaboration/): Adding team members, permission groups, Site Sharing, and Client Sharing. - [Staging workflow with Projects](https://cloudcannon.com/documentation/developer-guides/staging-workflow-guide/creating-a-project/): Using CloudCannon Projects to manage staging branches, review workflows, and multi-site publishing. ## Hosting and deployment - [CloudCannon DNS](https://cloudcannon.com/documentation/developer-articles/configure-cloudcannon-dns/): Configuring custom domains, SSL certificates, and DNS records. ## Tutorials and examples - [Creating an Astro site: beginners' tutorial](https://cloudcannon.com/tutorials/astro-beginners-tutorial-series/): End-to-end Astro tutorial from project setup to deployment on CloudCannon. - [Getting started with CloudCannon and Astro: Snippets and Collections](https://cloudcannon.com/blog/getting-started-with-cloudcannon-and-astro-snippets-and-collections/): Implementing Snippets for complex content components and reorganising Collections. - [Getting started with CloudCannon and Astro: Bookshop, components, and live editing](https://cloudcannon.com/blog/getting-started-with-cloudcannon-and-astro-bookshop-components-and-live-editing/): Implementing Bookshop for component-based live editing. - [Introducing the Astro Component Starter](https://cloudcannon.com/blog/introducing-the-astro-component-starter/): Overview of the Component Starter, design tokens, and page building with CloudCannon's visual editor. ## Starter templates - [Astro Minimal Starter (Editable Regions)](https://cloudcannon.com/templates/astro-minimal-starter/): A minimal starting point using Editable Regions for visual editing.
