* What kinds of images are supported?

  We can generate alt text for all popular image formats. We support AVIF, SVG, JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP, and BMP images, as long as they are less than 16MB in size and at least 50×50 pixels.

* Why can't I use SVG or AVIF on the free trial?

  Advanced image format support (SVG and AVIF) is a premium feature available exclusively to paid subscribers. These formats require specialized processing technology and additional computational resources to convert them into formats that our AI can analyze. While standard formats (JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP, BMP) are available on the free trial, you'll need to upgrade to a paid plan to access our advanced format conversion capabilities.

* Do different image formats use different amounts of credits?

  Yes. Standard formats (JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP, BMP) use 1 credit per image. Advanced formats (SVG, AVIF) require additional processing and use 2 credits per image. This is clearly indicated when you upload images, and your credit usage is always transparent in your account dashboard.

* Do you store the images I upload?

  No, we do not store any images or binary files. Your library consists of your original image URLs, the alt text generated by AltText.ai, and any associated image metadata that you provided.

* How do credits and pricing plans work?

  Our pricing is simple and transparent. Each subscription plan grants you a fixed number of monthly/yearly credits, or you can make a one-time purchase of credit packs. Standard formats (JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP, BMP) use 1 credit per image, while advanced formats (SVG, AVIF) require 2 credits per image due to additional processing requirements. Your first 25 credits are free for new accounts. Unused credits roll over at the end of each billing period, and plans can be cancelled at any time.

* What happens if I cancel my plan?

* Do I own the alt text I generate?

  Yes, any alt text generated using AltText.ai is entirely yours. We do not claim any ownership rights over the alt text or any other content produced through our service. You retain full rights to use, modify, distribute, or otherwise exploit it as you see fit, in accordance with our Terms of Service. While we store the generated alt text in your account for convenience, we do not use it for AI-training or share it with third parties.

* Can I use AltText.ai on multiple websites?

  Yes, there is no limit to how many websites or integrations you can associate with your account. As long as you have credits available in your account, you'll be able to generate alt text.

* Can I white-label your service?

  We offer the ability to white-label your account so that any integrations/installations will not display the name of your paid credit plan. You can also control the maximum number of images that can be processed each month per API Key in your account. Just click the 'White-label' checkbox in your account settings to activate the feature.

### Integrations & Plugins

* Do I lose my alt text if I uninstall the plugin or app?

  No, you do not lose any alt text that you already generated. For example, if you use our WordPress plugin to add alt text to 500 images, and then uninstall the plugin, the alt text will remain on those 500 images.

* How do I connect AltText.ai to my CMS system?

  We have native plugins for WordPress, Contentful, DatoCMS, Storyblok, BigCommerce, Shopware, and Ecwid. If you're using a different CMS platform, check out our Zapier / Pabbly / Albato / SureTriggers connectors, which work with hundreds of other apps and platforms. Our team is always evaluating new partners based on customer demand, so be on the lookout for even more plugins!

* When is alt text added to product images?

  If you're using our Shopify or WooCommerce plugin, alt text is added automatically when your product catalog is synced or when you trigger the bulk-update tool. For newly uploaded images after the plugin is installed, alt text will be attempted within a few minutes (assuming there are credits available). If your product has multiple images, you can specify whether to apply alt text to the primary image only or all images.

* Is my Online Store Speed affected by your app?

  No — our plugin and app are designed to process alt text generation asynchronously via our API. It does not block page-loading or affect user experience. Generated alt text is added to images via background job and updated when you next re-publish or sync your catalog.

* Can the plugin rename files based on the alt text?

  Yes — go into the plugin settings and enable "Rename files" mode. When enabled, the plugin will generate alt text, attach it to the image, and rename the media-file filename to a slug-version of the alt text. For example: "Image of golden retriever running on the beach" → `image-of-golden-retriever-running-on-the-beach.jpg`. Note: Renaming files may break links if you have already embedded the image elsewhere — proceed with caution.

### Usage & Features

* How do I update alt text on multiple images?

  You can upload a CSV file that includes image URLs and optionally existing alt text. Our bulk-update tool will process each row and if the existing alt text is above the maximum length you've set, the system will flag it for you and propose a shorter version. After processing, you can download a new CSV with updated alt text and push it back into your CMS.

* Can I update alt text on just a single image?

  Yes — simply upload the image or enter its URL in the "Single Image" field in your dashboard, choose or confirm the alt text, and click "Generate". The new alt text will replace the old one if you confirm the change.

* How do I add SEO keywords to the alt text?

  In your account settings you can enable "Keyword prompts" mode. When enabled, you'll be given a text field in which you can enter one or more keywords. The system will include them in a grammatically-correct way in the alt text. Note: We still caution you to follow best practice: alt text should first describe the image meaningfully, then add keywords only where relevant — it should not be keyword sprinkled just for SEO.

* Can I set a maximum length for the alt text?

  Yes, you can set the maximum length for generated alt text in your Account settings. Note that Google no longer recommends a limit on alt text length, and modern screen readers do not impose a limit either.

* How do I see alt text that was added?

  In the dashboard "Library" tab you'll see a list of all images you've uploaded or processed, together with the current alt text, status (processed/unprocessed), credit cost, and date of last update. You can export this list as a CSV file at any time.

### Languages

* Do you support languages other than English?

  Yes, we support over 130 different languages — the widest language support of any AI alt text tool. If you use our website or WordPress plugin, just select your desired language in the settings dropdown. If you are using our Developer API, we've documented the `lang` parameter that should be sent in your image-create request.

* What languages and language codes are supported?

  We currently support over 130 languages including language-specific codes such as `en`, `es`, `fr`, `de`, `pt-BR`, `zh-CN`, `ja`, `ko`. The full list is available in your Dashboard under Settings → Languages. If you need a rare language not on our list, contact our team and we may be able to add it.

### Troubleshooting

* My images are not getting alt text added?!

  Make sure you've published the changes after the plugin or app adds the alt text. Also check if the image URL is properly recognized by our system (it must be publicly accessible and not behind authentication). If you're using a local staging environment or restricted network, our system may not be able to fetch the image metadata. Contact us via chat if you still see no alt text after verifying these steps.
