## Regulatory & Compliance Context

### European Accessibility Act (EAA)
EU Directive 2019/882. **Effective 28 June 2025** — compliance is now required. Applies to e-commerce, banking, transportation, telecommunications, and consumer products with digital interfaces. Requires WCAG 2.2 Level AA and EN 301 549 alignment. Micro-enterprises (under 10 employees and €2M turnover) may be exempt from some requirements. Proactive government audits have already begun across the EU; national authorities now have enforcement frameworks. Disability advocacy groups are increasingly using summary court proceedings.

### Other Standards
- **WCAG 2.2 Level AA** — current W3C standard (published September 2023). Most regulations require Level AA.
