# Montana Knife Company

> Montana Knife Company (MKC) is an American knife maker founded in 2020 by master bladesmith Josh Smith and Brandon Horoho. Every knife is designed, forged, heat-treated, assembled, and sharpened in Montana: as of January 2026, in a 50,000 sq ft facility in Missoula. The tagline is "Working Knives for Working People."

MKC makes fixed-blade knives for hunting, everyday carry, tactical, bushcraft, and culinary use, plus kitchen collections, apparel, leather, and hardwoods. Primary steels are 52100 ball-bearing carbon steel and CPM MagnaCut stainless, with AEB-L and 440C on select culinary pieces. Handles are G10 composite in named color treatments (the signature being Orange & Black). Finishes include stonewash and PVD.

New blade platforms launch via a "drop" model: a limited production window, advance notification via email/SMS waitlist, and a countdown to release. Between drops, the `/collections/blades-in-stock` page lists what is immediately purchasable. Every MKC knife is covered by the **Generations Promise**: free lifetime sharpening, cleaning, and handle/blade maintenance regardless of how the knife was acquired (2-3 business day service window, MKC pays return shipping). The separate manufacturing warranty covers defects.

Sub-brands: **MKC Tactical** (dedicated tactical blade lineup and apparel) and **MKC Culinary** (a field-to-kitchen collection positioned "From First Blood to Last Bite"). The brand operates on a "4 C's" framework: Country (American manufacturing), Customer (affordable working tools), Community (Montana jobs), Conservation (outdoor stewardship).
